About the Alan Madden Foundation
In 1981, a tragedy shook the community of Quincy, Illinois. Five-year-old Alan Madden was brutally beaten by his mother and her boyfriend. It was the third time he had been returned to them, from the protection of foster care. Despite multiple alerts from the concerned community, the signs of neglect and abuse were tragically ignored by authorities. Alan, a quiet and shy boy, couldn't voice his suffering. The lack of communication between the agencies involved led to his untimely death.
Alan Madden was five years old.
This heart-wrenching event profoundly impacted Victoria Herrin, the founder and President of the Alan Madden Foundation. Outraged by the lack of partnership and communication between the various agencies, she vowed to honor his memory by ensuring no child's suffering goes unnoticed. She created the Alan Madden Foundation, Inc. for this purpose.
Our Mission
The Alan Madden Foundation, 501(c)3 non-profit, is dedicated to supporting youth transitioning in or out of foster care, especially those who have experienced abuse, neglect or human trafficking. We provide comprehensive services, including medical care, education, housing, life coaching, therapeutic programs, specialized support for Autism, foster parent education faith-based services, transportation and emergency support, to ensure these children feel safe while achieving their highest potential.
Our Impact
We are proud to have a 98% success rate, with children in our program continuing to post-secondary education. Recognizing the challenges faced by youth aging out of the foster care system, we offer long-term support, pairing young adults with vetted senior citizens, many of whom are veterans, to help them develop essential life skills for independent living.
Our Services
At our organization, we are dedicated to helping children who come from incredibly challenging backgrounds. Many of these young lives have been touched by severe trauma, including human, abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking. In addition, we support children living with Autism, mental health issues, and trauma-related conditions. Some of our children urgently need medical care, housing assistance, and other emergency services.
Thanks to the generosity of our partners and donors, we can provide the essential support these children need to heal, grow, and thrive. Together, we can make a lasting difference in their lives
Creating Positive Memories
We believe in the power of positive experiences. From day trips and group vacations to parties and social events, we strive to create joyful memories that contribute to the well-being of our children.
